Im a bridesmaid that cant attend the bridal shower...?

is this horrible? I was never told of when the shower would be, so me and my boyfriend (whose brother is actually the groom in the wedding) have planned a trip to florida for our one year anniversary the weekend of the shower. Is it horrible for me not to be there? We bought the plane tickets before I got the invitation, and theyre non-refundable because I bought them at such a cheap price. I really do not want to offend the bride, but my boyfriend and I have been looking forward to this for a very long time. I plan on sending a gift and an apology for my absence, but am I a horrible person for not attending?

If they weren't bright enough to give you more warning for the shower then they can't expect you to just drop everything for them. Were you supposed to put your life on hold until you got the invitation? Hopefully, you already have the date for the wedding so you don't run into this again. I can't believe anyone would hold it against you. What you might do is call the bride the day of the shower just to let her know you are thinking of her. Try calling just before you "take the plunge" on some roller coaster or similar ride.
